“Do I really need to learn to breathe?”

We assume at our peril that because we breathe automatically, that we are breathing optimally, for most of us that’s not the case. Automatic breathing might be enough to survive, but enough to thrive, heal, relax, or feel good.

Most people are Over breathing

This comes from postural patterns, and the emotional or environmental stressor that come with modern living. Just like with over eating, there are serious health consequences for doing so. Chronic Hyperventilation (over breathing) create lead to…

  • brain fog, low energy and inability to focus / get excited without stimulants.

  • nervous system dysregulation, stress and sleep problems (insomnia, snoring and apnea).

  • inflammation, auto-immune, metabolic, hormonal and cardiovascular disorders.

  • physical and mental underperformance.

Every system in the body operates with the breath and is effected by the way we breathe. Most people in modern society suffer from one, if not multiple, of these conditions. Our breathing patterns may not be the root cause of our unwellness, but it is definitely exacerbating it and could be the most effective way to start healing it.

the great myth of Breathing

Most of us assume that the more air that we breathe, the more oxygen we get. This is the great myth around breathing and the main reason why most people, even athletes and yogis, are suffering, panting, sighing, snoring, and experiencing fatigue.

Actually, the more air we breathe, the less Oxygen is available for use.

The issue isn’t lack of Oxygen, but lack of Carbon Dioxide. The presence of Carbon Dioxide is the mechanism that releases Oxygen from our blood and into our tissues and cells, where it’s used as fuel. When we hyperventilate, we deplete our CO2 levels, preventing us from using the Oxygen that is already available to us.

The key to healthful breathing is not breathing more, but learning to breathe less.

WElcome to the art of Breathing

This is the focus of the Art of Breathing, Fundamentals course. In this course I will help you reconnect with your lungs and respiratory muscles, slow down and learn to breathe less. The practices I explore in this course are simple, easy to follow and accessible for EVERYONE. This is not an exercise training program, you don’t need to be “fit” or even healthy to do these practices, but you will become more fit and healthy by doing so.

Your lungs will reopen, heart rate will slow down, blood pressure will decrease, stress levels will drop, immune system will rebalance and energy levels will recover. If this sounds too good to be true, remember that breathing is the first and most important function of your body. Every cell, organ and system in the body relies on breath and responds to how we breathe.
